As of noon on Friday, Frangas' name did not appear on the list of individuals pulling petitions.
Also, I actually counted 13 names on the list, including:
Paula Sandoval, Tony Trampler, Susan Shepherd, Georgia Sigala, Kenneth Padilla, Larry Ambrose, John Haney, Jon Lehman, Brian Ray, Katherine Cornwell, Christopher Jeffrey, Randle Swan, and Christopher Kinchin.
I don't know all these names, so it is possible that the petitions were pulled for Frangas by someone acting in his stead and his name inadvertently was not on the list, but rather his agent.
Dunno.
I have to believe that out of this list, we can likely count on at least 7 candidates making the ballot.
This will be a wild one and clearly have an impact on the Senate and House races in northwest Denver.

To run for Council or Senate that is the question for Frangas??

Who is not running in this race. 10 people have taken out petition for city council. Something I just don't get.
From Denver Post: State Rep. Jerry Frangas, a Democrat, said he took out petition paperwork for the Denver city council race to represent the northwest area because he's been urged to run for the seat by constituents.
Frangas said he likely will stick with his plans to run for a state Senate seat, but wants to keep his options open. He said he'll make a final decision soon.
http://blogs.denverpost.com/th...

Georgia Sigala announces City Council District 1 candidacy

Georgia Sigala announces City Council District 1 candidacy
Georgia Sigala is a fourth generation native of Northwest Denver. Her roots in North Denver started at a young age, and continue to flourish. She and many of her family members are proud alumni of the schools in our local District 1. As a student at Edison Elementary School, she earned a luncheon to meet with the former Mayor Federico Peña which planted a seed that inspired her to embark on a path leading to a career in public service. While continuing her education she became School to Career Counselor for Denver Public Schools. Georgia is active in the community as a working professional serving in roles in non-profit and education systems as Peer Mentor, Educator, and helping at-risk and disabilities youth gain opportunities otherwise not afforded to them as a Youth Advocate. She has experience in helping local Denver families find support in promoting a child's development within one's family activities and community life as Early Intervention Services Coordinator. Georgia has served on Denver Inter-Agency Transition Team (DITT), Hispanic Education Advisory Council HEAC, and Career and Technology Education Business Advisory Board for Denver Public Schools.
Georgia Sigala is running because she has passion for the City and wants to assist her neighbors in any way she can. It has been her dream to serve the people of District 1, and with your help, she can make it a reality. She is a modern public servant ready to be your fresh voice in City Council.
Georgia's key issues for City Council District 1 include:
Economic Prosperity, Environmental Sustainability, Small Businesses
Education, Arts, Culture, and Skill Development
Children, Families, Senior Citizens, and Our Neighborhoods
Public Safety, Human Health, and Equality for all sectors of the Community
Well-designed and well-planned Community
Public Policy that empowers the community by supplying resources that solves problems, and reflects the values and priorities of its citizens
"I look forward to serving and energizing our community in Northwest Denver as your District 1 Councilwoman, and to assist Denver to flourish and succeed in its diverse communities as a City!"
As a fellow labor activist observed:
SHE GOT VOTED OUT OF A 23,000 MEMBER UNION...
but...
WANTS TO BE VOTED IN TO A 71,000 CONSTITUENT DISTRICT.
...right.
I can't make sense of that either. 1,500 voting members of the union she was political director/legal counsel/president's daughter for told her "we will no longer be needing your services" and Crisanta is turning around to tell us (yes, I live in District 5) that we would somehow benefit from her services as a representative in House District 5. it just doesn't add up...
http://unionstaffspeaksout.wor...

Now I know why I wasn't able to get some of the schools I requested from DPS: the GOP beat me to them!
They must do their cuacuses different. I cannot image the Dems having 40-50 precincts meeting in one location. I start getting concerned about the chaos factor when we get up to 20 in one place.

There may be issues with Garcia hanging on to the seat

He cannot miss too many council meetings (not sure of the number) before the seat becomes defacto vacant. And while Council might want to avoid a special election, leaving northwest Denver without a council member for 3+ months would be problematic. It is not just the votes that council members need to cast, but the constituent work is 90% of the job.
I am not sure about Denver's election laws (you clearly are the expert there) but is it not possible for the election commission to do an all mail ballot for the special election? There is still a cost to this, but certainly a cheaper one than a full-blown regular election.
